Key Hayao Miyazaki Easter Eggs

Hayao Miyazaki is no doubt one of the best animation screenwriters that the world has witnessed. Just some of his titles can bring us back to our childhoods, such as Spirited Away, Howl’s Moving Castle and Spirited Away!

But have you noticed the many easter eggs pasted throughout his movies? This list is in no particular order.

1. Shameless Advertising

Miyazaki loves his studio, so he shamelessly promotes it throughout his animations. Kiki’s Delivery Service presents a bold example of this.

AND AGAIN!

2. Mei and Little Totoro

Mei and Totoro are featured during one of the scenes in Kiki’s Delivery Service.

3. It’s Him, It’s Miyazaki!

He’s quite the sneaky one by placing a caricature of himself in his own films.

3. Self Branding (Once again…)

Just like #1 on this list, he loves placing his studio name all around the place!

4. “Gimme your Kiki doll, Shizuku!”

Hey guys just saying, you should buy me one. <3

5. Young Pazu

If you look carefully in the following scene from Howl’s Moving Castle then you’ll see a young Pazu running around!

Summary

Miyazaki is one of the masters of animation for the last generation and even the current, seeing all of these easter eggs just makes his movies even more enjoyable! These are simply what we at OtakuNZ have noticed, did you notice any that we missed? Tell us down below!
